Brothers and sisters, this weekend on Saturday we will once again celebrate the awesomesauce that is Free Comic Book Day! The once-a-year event teams all the comic book companies, big and small, with retailers to pass out a slew of comic titles FOR FREE, with the hopes of introducing new readers to characters and stories they may have missed.
FCBD is one of my favorite events to attend each year. Most comic shops really play it up, with giveaways, special guests, free food, and people dressed in capes and leotards. It's an EPIC event. And the best part is, you get enormous amounts of swag!
For a listing of the titles they're offering this year, and for participating shops, check out the official site.
Also, to pump yourself up for it, the Iron Man movie comes out tomorrow. I HAVE SEEN IT WITH MY EYES! It is awesome and highly recommended.

It sucks that there is only one comic shop near me, and the guy who runs it is a curmudgeon who hates people who have the nerve to enter his shop and interrupt him.
I'm really surprised to find his shop on the list of participants... I wonder what he'll have...
my guess ... FREE COMIC BOOKS!
I dont have ANY comic book stores around me.
Yes, but knowing this place, they'll be in cardboard boxes outside the door with a free sign above them.and I doubt there would be any superhero costumes nearby...
I watched Iron Man again last night. If you go, you MUST stay to see the scene at the end of the credits. It's BADASS.
I did not get to see the after credit scene - whoever loaded the reel somehow f'd it up so it stopped without the scene.
The spoiler, should you not wish to sit through the whole movie again just to see the most badass part ever.
[spoiler]Stark walks into his badass living room overlooking the ocean. The living room is dark, and he goes to mess with the security system. You hear a badass voice from across the room say "So you're Iron Man." Stark replies coldly and asks who the hell the other dude, who is standing with his back toward stark and appears only as a badass black outline against the moonlight sky, is and why the hell he's in Stark's home.
The figure replies to the badass effect of telling Stark that he's entered an unfamiliar world now with super heroes and villains far beyond what he'd ever imagined. Turning aroud, the camera cuts in close. It's Samuel L. MUTHA****IN Jackson wearing all black, with an eye patch! "I'm Gen. Nick Fury, commander of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I'm here to ask inquire about the Avengers Initiative." Cut to black.

FOR THE WIN!
No comic stores within 20 miles of me... :-( And I completely agree about Parker's CB, I went in there only once and had the same experience that you described...
Well, FCBD was good for me. Picked up Superman, Cable, Hellboy, Maintenance, and Atomic Robo, and I purchased the Marvel Civil War TPB covering Civil War issues 1 - 7. Most stores had free food, big sales, and people dressed in silly costumes. A good time was had by all.
