Epic beer run

Sometimes duty calls...

Sitting in IRC on #icrontic the other night...

I saw Thrax mention that he was looking for a good wheat beer or a good pale ale (I don't remember now). I've kept telling him about this epic store called Wiater's that sells beer from ALL OVER THE WORLD that is only about 4 miles from ICHQ.

Finally last night I couldn't take it anymore. GODDAMNIT THRAX, JUST COME OVER, WE'RE GOING TO WIATER'S.

"FINE ALRIGHT FML" says Thrax, who gets in his car and heads our way.

Yup, he showed up and at 8:30 at night Keebler, Thrax, and I got into Keebs' car and jetted over to 8 Mile and Groesbeck to attend to duty.

Wiater's is EPIC. They have TONS of exotic beers. We walked out with cases of Sam Adams Hefeweizen, Sam Adams White Ale, Bell's Winter White, and Rising Moon Spring Ale. We also got some individual bottles - two Belgians (one a doppelbock and the other.. I forget. Some crazy monk shit. I'll post the names later) and Unibroue's Seigneuriale.

At any rate, Icrontic for the win. Good beer is always worth the trouble.

Recovering the Satellites

Last night, the United States Navy got to shoot a big missile at an even bigger, but not as cool, spy satellite. It's amazing that we have the capability to shoot down fast moving targets a bazillion miles away from water-based platforms. You'd think waves would cause a problem, but I digress . . .

While everyone is waiting for satellite parts to make pretty streaks in the sky, here's something to tide you over.

Jim Koch offers cheap hops to small brewers

Jim Koch, owner of Sam Adams Brewery, is sitting on 10 tons of excess hops this year. What do you do with 10 tons of hops when there is a worldwide hops price crisis? Why, you sell them at wholesale rates to small brewers so local beer connoisseurs can get the beers that they love! The brewery will sell 10,000 pounds of East Kent Goldings from Great Britain and 10,000 pounds of Tettnang Tettnanger from small farms in the Tettnang region in Germany.

This is a very nice gesture from a small brewer who made it big. Seems like Jim remembers where he came from.

Full story with analysis is available at Appellation Beer.

New TOMS kicks

Shoes for a cause.

I know I'm bordering on a shoe fetish thing here, but stick with me. I'm so pleased that I've gotta share with the Life crew.

I picked up a pair of TOMS shoes Friday without really knowing what to expect, and was surprised to find them coming in well above my expectations. They're cheap shoes. Cheap shoes that I paid $48 for.

WHAT.

$48 for burlap slip-ons seems ridiculous. But, they're shoes with a cause. For every pair you buy, the company donates a pair to some kid in need somewhere in the world. There are thousands -- millions even -- of kids around the world that are barefoot and forced to face the elements with nothing to protect their toes. The company founder, former Amazing Race contestant and entrepreneur Blake Mycoskie, was empathetic of the shoeless kids he met while traveling the world, so he designed a shoe based off the traditional Argentenian alpargatas and created the give-away program. To date, Blake and his company have given away 50,000 shoes. That's cool.

But aside from being cool, they're comfortable, with a hard rubber sole similar to Birkenstocks, a decent insole with arch support, and a soft cotton inner lining. Mine are burlap and look funky, but they're available in all sorts of colors, patterns, and materials. Just thought I'd share.

Welcome to Kosovo

A new country - we can only hope for new spammers to go with it

Introducing the world's newest nation: Kosovo. Hopefully they won't get it in their heads that their status as a new Eastern European nation means that they have to start spamming forums and sending Viagra emails and whatnot.

SMS is BACK on Stage6

Hott!

The crazy dudes and sassy dudettes of #icrontic used to love linking each other to videos of the Ukrainian band SMS on Stage6... However one sad day all the videos were removed and we had to get our jollies elsewhere.

No longer! Our man Fatcat found all the SMS videos on Stage6 - they're back!

Telo: Highlights at 1:43 where she says something that sounds like "my pussy" and also at 2:00 where she is breathing orgasmically. Very nice.

Liubyi Kokhai Mene, the video that started it all. The age old debate: Librarian chick, toothbrush chick, or kitchen chick? (Librarian is my personal fave)

Obida.

There's more. Happy Hunting!

Beer Review: Samuel Adams Boston Lager

An American brew for the American patriot

This beer would be an excellent choice with a steak. The taste can be a little strong for some, and as such I usually order Sam Adams Light at the bar. With that being said, SABL is still a very refreshing beer, and a fine selection for a connoisseur.
