Those crazy Japanese! I just wanna hug 'em all!
Apparently the good brewers at Sapporo are going to brew beer using barley grown from seeds that spent a few months in space. The seeds were brought back to terra firma, planted and grown, and the resulting barley is going to be made into 100 bottles of beer. There are no plans to sell this beer.
Why? Who knows. Why not?

Somebody's not Livin' the Icrontic Life
We all know that beer is important. There are some things in life, however, that are actually more important than beer. Your children, for instance.
Apparently this guy was trying so hard to uphold the "beer" aspect of the Icrontic Life that he forgot his priorities. A keen-eyed police officer, noticing the man's lack of updated registration, pulled him over to find a case of beer buckled into the passenger seat and his five-year old kid sitting on the floor of the car.
Sorry, pal, you are NOT Livin' the Icrontic Life. The fine of $750 AUD pales in comparison to jeopardizing the safety of a child... not to mention your honorary Anti-Icrontian status for life.

A quick summary: teh Fatcat saved Ludo from bad beer by intercepting a Miller Genuine Draft and buying them Bell's Oberon instead.
We got a lot of swag and hung out with the guys for a while.

Epic beer run
Sometimes duty calls...
Sitting in IRC on #icrontic the other night...
I saw Thrax mention that he was looking for a good wheat beer or a good pale ale (I don't remember now). I've kept telling him about this epic store called Wiater's that sells beer from ALL OVER THE WORLD that is only about 4 miles from ICHQ.
Finally last night I couldn't take it anymore. GODDAMNIT THRAX, JUST COME OVER, WE'RE GOING TO WIATER'S.
"FINE ALRIGHT FML" says Thrax, who gets in his car and heads our way.
Yup, he showed up and at 8:30 at night Keebler, Thrax, and I got into Keebs' car and jetted over to 8 Mile and Groesbeck to attend to duty.
Wiater's is EPIC. They have TONS of exotic beers. We walked out with cases of Sam Adams Hefeweizen, Sam Adams White Ale, Bell's Winter White, and Rising Moon Spring Ale. We also got some individual bottles - two Belgians (one a doppelbock and the other.. I forget. Some crazy monk shit. I'll post the names later) and Unibroue's Seigneuriale.
At any rate, Icrontic for the win. Good beer is always worth the trouble.

Jim Koch offers cheap hops to small brewers
Jim Koch, owner of Sam Adams Brewery, is sitting on 10 tons of excess hops this year. What do you do with 10 tons of hops when there is a worldwide hops price crisis? Why, you sell them at wholesale rates to small brewers so local beer connoisseurs can get the beers that they love! The brewery will sell 10,000 pounds of East Kent Goldings from Great Britain and 10,000 pounds of Tettnang Tettnanger from small farms in the Tettnang region in Germany.
This is a very nice gesture from a small brewer who made it big. Seems like Jim remembers where he came from.

Beer Review: Samuel Adams Boston Lager
An American brew for the American patriot
This beer would be an excellent choice with a steak. The taste can be a little strong for some, and as such I usually order Sam Adams Light at the bar. With that being said, SABL is still a very refreshing beer, and a fine selection for a connoisseur.
