We’re always looking to strike a balance between usefulness and community happiness and losing our asses (in a financial sense).
Icrontic, like any big site, costs hundreds of dollars a month to run. In order to recoup that cost we run ads and rely on community support to ensure that everything can keep running smoothly.
Of course, some people loathe ads, so we wanted to make sure we could find a way to have them disappear for supporters.
To that end, we came up with the Icrontic subscriber program last year. Time to admit it: It was a flop. We had a whopping nine subscribers. We thought we could offer a bunch of compelling reasons to part with $9 a month, but we were wrong, wrong, and wrong. Hell, Netflix is only $8 a month.
Our subscribers receive the following benefits:
- No ads on Icrontic
- Our email newsletter
- A special achievement for their user profile
- Reduced price for IC event tickets
- Access to our buyer’s guide
Those are all cool things, don’t get me wrong, but $9/month cool? Obviously not. What were we thinking?
So today Lincoln and I sat down and retooled the subscription program. The price is now $20/year. That will buy you in to the benefits listed above, and we’ve got some more cool things coming soon that will be a part of it.
For the nine of you who have already subscribed, you have been grandfathered in for another full year, and your recurring payment has been cancelled. We’re also offering one-year subscriptions for everybody who has contributed content in the last few months, as our way of saying “thanks.”
So, if you want to support Icrontic, get an ad-free existence, and be Generally Awesome™ you can subscribe here.
